Trend Report 01
Design continues to become more irreverent and the passionate die-hard-designers are fighting against a templated world where good design was probably purchased pre-baked. The last thing you want to do is fill that template with other common material.
Authentic has lost all meaning, and authentic photos are now a bad trend pretending to represent that life happens so perfectly.
Hopefully you have seen the amazing movement of March For Our Lives. The new generation is here, and they are more real than any authentic trend. Culture is turning away from the well post-processed instagram style photos of 2010 and all its stereotypes of ideals and assumptions. Our new generation skipped using VSCO and went straight to Snap Chat, live stories and a buffet of all the visual content they can digest. It's not enough to just create something aesthetically appealing. To stand out: be interesting. Most of all, please, please: be original. Crude realness and things that make ugly beautiful are taking over. It's been awhile since any model has stood out like Jazzelle Zanaughtti, or @uglyworldwide, obliterating all common ideals with individuality.
Tech is burnt out. Between the invasion of privacy from Facebook, the infuriating news feed items on politics and the reality that the dopamine rush you get from social may be an addiction, people are searching to find what has meaning and inspires them. And the word on the street I keep hearing: it's art. Tech needs art and culture to save itself and become grounded again.
